Pulse
Gamified light structure
GPT GROUP
Gamification or art? Visible from 5 levels, Pulse is an adrenaline rush for the senses. Designed to attract visitors to Melbourne Central’s L3 entertainment precinct, Pulse uses a central ring to hold over 2000 light tubes, connecting them to four interactive gaming consoles either side of a void.
More than an interactive light sculpture, this feature piece is a highly complex technological achievement. Pulse is interactive, serviceable, flexible, movable, controllable, architecturally matched to its space, visible over two levels and built with future works in mind. One of the smartest light sculptures you’ll ever see, the result is a world-first experience that defies all norms.

Adding to its complexity, four plinths control each of the light strips while talking to each other in real-time, allowing users to ‘play’ the sculpture in a mixed-reality game that pushes technological boundaries.
This sculpture: records analytics and runs remote diagnostics, uses visual effects and rewards to encourage repeat visitation and incorporates lighting software with gaming engines - all on IM™.
